When you first open the new MyUni Student Portal take some time to look around, open each of the main navigation Tabs, and have a quick look at all the services and links available. It will not be necessary to use everything immediately, but it will be helpful to know it's all there when you might need it at some later date. Many of you already know that a portal is a gateway to other information and services. MyUni is a portal that connects you to all the core services and information you need during your studies at the University of Sydney. It brings together different 'channels" of information. A channel is a different compartment within the Portal's pages. For example, there are channels on how to use the ITS Help Desk and information about student computer services, your library services, student scholarships, specialised learning centres, special information channels for international students, casual employment and student accommodation channels.
MyUni is best viewed on the following browsers:
Microsoft Internet Explorer - 5.5 and higher Netscape - 7.1 and higher Mozilla - 1.5 and higher You may be able to use MyUni in other browsers; however the functionality may not perform as expected. Your Student Self Administration functions will only work using the above browsers.
The Portal allows you to personalise settings and to make changes to the layout of channels and to colour themes. This means you can set channels and have them displayed where you want them on the pages of your MyUni Portal. If you make many changes to the colour scheme, or move many channels around or hide them, your view of the Portal will be different to that of other students. You can bring everything back to its original position and settings by using the Portal's Reset function at the top right hand side of the Portal's pages.
The Portal's online help, in the "about MyUni" tab, provides information necessary for self service so you can work independently in the evening or at home.
Our Help Desk is also ready to guide you between 8 am and 6 pm each week day if you need some help. Remember if you have customised your display by hiding or moving channels up or down to suit your information preferences, the Help Desk staff may ask you to reset these changes back to the original default alignment. They will do this so that they have the same view of the Portal as you while providing help and assistance.
To finish your Portal session you MUST log out. The log out function is at the banner - top right hand section of each page in the portal. This is extremely important for your security. |
